I started Robin Hobb’s Farseer Trilogy back in June. At first I couldn’t get into the books but I persevered. It was the best decision I have made. This is one of the best Fantasy Series I have come across.
In total there are 16 books in the series and I am currently finishing the last book. This has been one of the best journeys I have been on with any book I have read.
There is too much to go through all the books in this post so I will concentrate on the first three books.
I will try to keep the write up general to ensure there are no spoilers as there is a lot going on in these books.
Robin Hobb is one of the best writers around that allows you to see every detail of the world that she has created. When I got started on the first book it was amazing at how much detail is setup by Robin, it allows you to be immersed in the world and can see every little detail.
The first book in the series is called the Assassins Aprentice. The story is about an orphan boy named Fitz who has been handed over to the royal family of the land as he is the bastard son of one of the princes named Chivalry. Fitz doesn’t know who is mother is and is now in the hands of the royal family and they have to decide what to do with him.
The story follows Fitz throughout his early years and will go through several different scenarios that shape his life and everything that happens to him is outwith his control.
The first book sets up the things that are to come later on in the series. One of the best parts about the books is that you get involved in Fitz’s life and will take you on a journey that you feel you are a part of. From the people Fitz meets to how they shape his life.
This is a story of Betrayal, war, pain, loss. Every emotion you think of you will go through in these books. The assassins apprentice is a great start to the story. It is the first in the Farseer Trilogy that is a must read for any fantasy fan.
I have been discussing these books with others that have read them and have still to come across anyone that wasn’t engrossed with them. These books could make a great tv show, however I am unsure if I would watch it as I have everything in my mind on how the world is and should be. If someone created a tv show it would be their interpretation of the series and I don’t think it would fit around what I have imagined.
This article is just an intro to Robin Hobb’s Series of Books. Over the coming days we will go through each book individually. If you are looking for a good read with a huge journey then you should add these books to your reading list.
